Clemency

Sterling LaVoe Graham is a 41-year-old African American male from Norfolk, Virginia. Mr. Graham is sentenced to serve 7 life sentences for non-homicide crimes, his first ever conviction as an adult. He has served 20 years and is not eligible for parole.

Serving these 20 years thus far has allowed me to gain perspective. By the Grace of Allah I found strength in my faith, and I chose to take my rehabilitation into my own hands.Sterling LaVoe Graham

What we are asking for

Fighting 4 Freedom is seeking executive clemency from the Governor of Virginia on Mr. Graham's behalf. He has expressed remorse and offered sincere apologies for his actions. Clemency would not erase his accountability. It would address a punishment that has exceeded its rehabilitative and deterrent purpose.

Seven life sentences for crimes in which no life was taken is a sentence built for a different person than the one now sitting in that cell. Bringing the sentence back into proportion is not leniency. It is the fairness and equity the system says it is built on.
