Based in Virginia, Fighting 4 Freedom was founded by Karen Dickson-Morrison. The President and Founder developed a passion for working with incarcerated individuals after realizing that too many people were incarcerated for crimes they did not commit or sentenced to unjust and harsh sentences.

Fighting 4 Freedom believes in second chances. People who are incarcerated are faced with paying for attorneys or advocates to fight for their freedom. We would like to lift that burden by offering a less expensive alternative or providing pro bono services.

Karen Dickson-Morrison

Founder and President

Karen Dickson-Morrison was born in Kingston, Jamaica. She moved to the Bronx, New York in 1977 and has been a resident of Virginia for 30 years. In 2014, Karen discovered her passion for justice when she found out a dear friend of hers was serving life in prison for a first-time drug offense. She advocated for his release and in 2016, President Obama granted him clemency. Karen has advocated for the release of other men and women and, through dedication and service, assisted with their release as well. She continues to advocate for people serving long and lengthy sentences in federal and state prisons.

Delisa Purchase, Esq., M.S.

Founding Board Member

Delisa is a Founding Board Member of Fighting 4 Freedom. She is a graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Syracuse University. Delisa is an attorney who possesses a holistic expertise that goes beyond the field of law. She is originally from Chicago, Illinois, and now resides in the DMV. Delisa started Purchase Law Firm, PLLC to help serve the people.

Valerie Bright

Founding Board Member

Valerie provides administrative support to the Fighting4Freedom team. She is a long-time Virginia resident who worked and volunteered for a non-profit community for many years. She received her MBA from Saint Leo University with a focus in Business Management. Valerie developed a strong sense of devotion to the non-profit sector after volunteering for many years, an experience that gave her a deep appreciation for how non-profits can change lives, one program at a time.

Shannon Andrews

Advocate

Shannon is a passionate advocate and a voice for those who are often unheard. Originally from New York, she now calls Florida home, where she has dedicated over seven years to supporting incarcerated men in Georgia and Florida. Her work focuses on sentencing disparities, parole challenges, and violations of civil and human rights. She has worked to identify and address CRIPA and SOP violations, ensuring individuals have the resources and support necessary to navigate the legal and penal system, and is completing a Bachelor's degree in Human Services with a minor in law.

Second chances, in practice

Cost should not decide

Freedom should not be available only to the people who can afford an advocate. Our services are offered at a reduced rate or pro bono.

Accountability is not the same as forever

Several of the people we represent accept what they did. A sentence that has outlived its purpose is a separate question from guilt.

The record is the argument

Boards and governors respond to documentation. We build the file until it is impossible to read the case as a single bad day.

Families are the case

The people still writing letters after twenty years are the reason most of these cases are alive at all. We work for them.
